Even tho I'm not really a social media guy, like the only social media i had until recently was Instagram, more and more of my online/irl friends made me move to TikTok.
I was quickly introduced to the universe of #techtok, which is interesting and braindead at the same time.
What I mean by that is,
90% of the users in this "niche" are either braindead kids who wanna look cool cuz they use a completely unknown distro or a "hard" distro. All I'm gonna say is: using a hard distro should not be a flex. That just means you're 17 at most or someone with a lot of free time. To make it clear, I do have a ton of respect for people who daily drive those distros,
for example: Gentoo, CRUX, LFS.
The other pretty notorious side of it is the systemd haters / minimalism freaks.
Kinda ironic for me to hate on people who dislike systemd since I'm a user of Void Linux and Devuan.
The one key point that people miss is that fundamentally, no one cares about the init system you use.
Linux is about freedom and making YOUR system however YOU like it.
Around 3 months ago,
I remember showing my Niri rice on r/unixporn and running into the biggest systemd hater I've ever seen. Watching all his arguments slowly crumble until he just went completely silent was pretty funny...
Cuz fundamentally, you have no reason to hate systemd or at least I haven't seen anyone bring a genuinely good argument to the table yet. If you want a transcript of the convo.
Please, someone give me a valid reason to hate systemd. I'm still waiting. This shit is open-source, what more do you want :sob:
And what about the other 10%?
Overall, they're nice, interesting people who just wanna show what they like / show off their Linux rice.
Anyways, I'm out.
